The Eighth Sunday after Trinity

THE FEEDING OF THE FIVE THOUSAND
Prayer Thought: No food or drink can saitisfy us for long. In this Sunday’s Gospel reading we hear how God takes pity and offers us rich food indeed, enough to satisfy our deepest hunger and thirst: the free gift of himself which we celebrate and receive in the Eucharist.

A pearl of great value.

Prayer Thought: People dream of winning a fortune. But what do we really want to win? If we are Christ-like then we shall possess all that matters: wisdom now and to behold the glory of God hereafter.

St Matthew’s Gospel 13:24ff
The parable of the wheat and the darnel.
Prayer Thought: In a world where violence and oppression often appear to conquer peace, gentleness and tolerance and where the rich and powerful often leave the poor and weak humiliated and abandoned, it can seem as if evil sometimes has the upper hand. The cross and resurrection show how the grace, truth, kindness and forgiveness of God will always prevail. May we always be attentive to his voice and ready and willing to do his bidding.

Christ the Sower.
Sowing the Seeds of God’s Word.
Prayer Thought: God’s word always has its effect. Although some may reject it, no one can fail to hear it. Have we accepted it as fully as we might? Are we willing and ready to bring that word to others?
